Built in 1901 under the guidance of Chaplain Adam McAlister, St. Peter’s Chapel is the oldest naval chapel in the United States. Set in lush “Chapel Park” and surrounded by soaring eucalyptus, the Chapel is a classic example of Victorian Gothic architecture with its tidy brown shingles, cream-colored trim, steep pitched roof and soaring octagonal spire. It has charm and history inside and out, including 29 brilliant stained glass windows, 25 of which are from the famed Tiffany glass studios in New York. Picture yourself getting married in this stunning and historic setting.
The largest and most prominent of the mansions of Mare Island’s “Captain’s Row,” the Admiral’s Mansion—as the name implies—was constructed for the top ranking officer of the Island.
